Internship Review

Objectives that were met:

  • Collaborate on social media content creation, including brainstorming, creation, and captioning.

I created and collaborated on several social media posts that we posted during the time of my internship, and that will be posted in the future. This included filming content, editing short-form videos, designing graphics, and image editing. I spend time researching content trends and ideas that I thought would fit well with the university’s brand and be engaging. I collaborated with team members frequently, but was also able to work on some projects completely independently.

  • Capture on-campus photography during the summer, as needed, to support marketing initiatives

I was able to do a photoshoot with Norm for a post.  I edited these photos and will upload them to Mediagraph so they may be used in the future. There were no other photography opportunities.

  • Support photo management efforts, including tagging, organizing, and selecting images for the university’s public gallery

I was able to tag the whole public gallery and remove older photos that are not as relevant for the public gallery. I worked on taking photos in the file vault so that they would be easier to find. I also began moving photos into the public gallery that are new and more relevant

  • Contribute to brand management projects, ensuring consistency and alignment with university standards.

Through all of my projects, I have worked to understand and maintain the brand of the university. I have done this through writing assignments and content. I also completed assignments that assisted with organization and setting resources up for future use.

  • Work within the office’s project management system (Asana) to track assignments, meet deadlines, and support team collaboration

I have become very familiar with Asana over my time as an intern. All of my assignments were listed in there and made them easy to track. At the beginning of my internship, I completed training on how Asana works and how to use it in the best way for me.

Objectives that were not met:

  • Assist the digital team with website updates, including content edits and accessibility improvements.

There were no updates that we found during my internship time. I’m hoping to gain experience in website editing in the future, both as part of my career and as I continue to build my photography business.

  • Edit video footage for a long-form project documenting a campus theatrical production.

While I was able to be in the video, I did not work with the team that was editing it. I would like to learn more about long-term video editing in the future and work more in video editing software.

Through this internship, my interest in university marketing and branding has only grown. Getting to work in a setting with a strong brand that works to support students is something that I have enjoyed. I have been able to learn more about working within a brand and how to design in a way that is both creative and fits the university standards. I also gained more knowledge about the design process from one of the amazing graphic designers, Jocelyn. I hope to have a job like my internship and to get to work in university branding again.
